Toshihiro Hamano’s artistic output is remarkably vast, encompassing monumental screen paintings, architectural wall installations, bronze sculptures, and graphic works that bridge Eastern philosophy with Western aesthetics. His expansive body of work is defined by a lifelong mission to foster cultural exchange and dialogue across national borders. His large-scale retrospective exhibitions have traveled extensively through major European cultural centers, including the Maison de la culture du Japon à Paris, museums in Versailles, Le Mans, and Vesoul, and international print biennials and triennials across Europe.

UNESCO houses one of the most significant international Japanese art collections, established in Paris in 1958 to promote cross-cultural dialogue and peace through works by renowned figures such as Isamu Noguchi, Tadao Ando, Churyo Sato, and Toshihiro Hamano.

Within this prestigious collection, Hamano holds a unique place defined by enduring contributions: he donated his gold leaf-enhanced bronze sculpture Dove of Peace in 2007, and later reaffirmed his dedication in 2022 by creating a series of ten original graphic works titled The Beauty of Japan – Tradition and Modernism, which explore the spirit and form of traditional Japanese aesthetics.

Today, UNESCO preserves and promotes these exceptional pieces through scientific and cultural partnerships, ensuring they continue to inspire global audiences worldwide.

"The Essence of Japanese Beauty" (2026-Present)

This original frame stamp collection commemorates the official recognition of Toshihiro Hamano’s work, "Tea House / Katsura Imperial Villa," as a UNESCO World Heritage Site of Art.

The project was formally reported to Kagawa Prefecture Governor Ikeda by Mr. Hamano and the Japan Post Shikoku Branch Manager, with former Governor Hamada (Representative Director of the Mecenat Kagawa Hamano Toshihiro Art Exchange Association) presiding over the presentation.

The commemorative stamps were released for sale at 50 post office counters across a region spanning from Tokyo to Kochi. The collection is available as a sheet of ten stamps for 1,700 yen (individual stamps are valued at 110 yen).
